Luckily, there are two open enrollment periods in place. For 2016, you can make changes to your Medicare plan from October 15 to December 7. During this time, you can sign up for Medicare Part D, change to another Medicare Part D plan or cancel your Part D coverage completely. You can also switch between Advantage plans.

During the next enrollment period, which runs from January 1 to February 14, you can also make changes. You will not be able to sign up for an Advantage plan during this time, however, so you should do that soon if you are interested. During the second enrollment period, however, you can sign up for Part D. Also, if you find out that you are unhappy with your Advantage plan, you can switch back to original Medicare.
